Our Biomedical students taking Human Body System have been investigating the nervous system! Students worked on sheep brain dissections last week and built clay models that they used to illustrate and explain the events of an action potential. The purpose of the dissection is to give students the experience of observing several of the key anatomical regions and structures of the mammalian brain and connect these with their associated functions!

Students in Mrs. Dailey’s Topics in College Math class concluded their study of probability by creating games of chance and then inviting Mrs. Kennedys grade 7 math class to visit and play them. Students calculated the theoretical probabilities of their games in advance, then ran the games for the 7th graders while keeping data on the outcomes, and then compared their results to the theoretical values.

Even with the power outages that took place before our winter break, art students were determined to finish their art projects. Students even used their phone flashlights so that they could keep painting!

Students in Modern World History classes recently completed a unit comparing the Crusades to the modern conflict over Israel. Students reviewed multiple forms of media identifying bias and perspective. Students began to formulate their own opinions regarding the conflict in Israel through an in-class debate. As a culminating event, students acted as journalists, interviewing Salwa bin Ghali from Jenin, West Bank. This interview followed a conversation with Elihay Skital from Ashkelon, Israel. Students engaged in workplace learning by acting as journalists to prepare culturally sensitive, yet thought provoking, questions to pose to both guest speakers. Students were impressed with the passion and completely different perspectives from both speakers!

Students in Computer Integrated Manufacturing have been cycling through stations to learn manufacturing techniques! For each station, students go through an academic phase where they watch a video demonstration and take a safety and technique quiz. Students then move on to the next station where they are given technical drawings for something made using the technique in question. Students practiced doing electronics soldering by attaching components to a silicon board, then splicing two wires together and waterproofing them with shrink tubing. They also practiced plumbers' work by pipe soldering different types of copper connectors to make a 3D shape, and check if the shape holds water.

Human Body System students enrolled in the Biomedical Pathway have begun investigating the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and its control over the muscular system. Students also got creative and sketched the lobes of the brain and control centers on swim caps and wore them around school showcasing their work!

S in STEAM students performed a water quality test from a variety of sources including multiple locations in the high school and samples from home. The purpose was to identify the presence of any potential chemical issues that might indicate poor water quality. There was a range among samples taken from the homes of students but the school water was considered average and safe.

Three of our seniors in HOSA are looking to fundraise for Stroke victims. They have chosen the Stroke Support Association to empower stroke survivors and their families with resources to recover, reclaim, and rebuild their lives. They have competed in Medical Innovations for the past two years designing a prototype to help stroke victims regain their hand function, now they have ventured on to Community Awareness, spreading information and awareness to and about stroke victims so their stories can be heard. You can help them by providing these victims with a little extra help! Every dollar counts! You can donate through the link attached. If you are unable to donate, please help us share the message! https://www.gofundme.com/f/scituate-hosa-stroke-awareness?utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet-first-launch&utm_medium=email&utm_source=customer
