Homecoming

SCITUATE, R.I., September 25, 2025 – In September, the Scituate community came together to host the Scituate High School annual homecoming events, including the fifth consecutive Homecoming Dance held at Hope Pond on Saturday, September 20. The high school received overwhelming support for the homecoming events from the Scituate Police Department, Hope and Jackson Fire Department, Scituate Department of Public Works, Hope Association, Scituate Emergency Management Agency, Scituate Recreation Department, Rufino’s Pizza, and many teachers, staff members, and parents.

“I’m humbled by the outpouring of support from our Scituate community every time we ask for help,” said Bianca Mancini, president of the Scituate Athletic Booster Club.

Mancini explained, “This year, we had two parents, Mike Smith, an elementary school parent, who graciously allowed us to borrow his personal sound system for two back-to-back weekend games, and Jody Bowden, the father of four high school students, who took on the game announcer role to help keep the energy and spirit alive. We want our community members to know that their time, talent, and generosity do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for their support.”

Mancini was originally part of the Scituate School Department’s COVID Task Force, which was tasked with relocating the Homecoming Dance in 2020 due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Since 2020, with the continued support from the school’s volunteers, the dance has remained at Hope Pond and has become a cherished tradition for many.

“Scituate is filled with people who love their town and their schools,” said SHS Principal Michael Hassell. “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong community filled with people who are willing to go the extra mile to make sure our schools and our students have these incredible experiences and opportunities.”

Leading up to the Homecoming Dance, high school students participated in Spirit Week, which ended in a friendly competition where classes battled against each other through a series of miniature games such as Tug-of-War and Musical Chairs during the pep rally held on Friday, September 19. The pep rally was followed by a teacher dunk tank fundraiser that helped raise a total of $300 for Scituate’s prom. Students could purchase two throws for $5 or five throws for $10. Several Scituate teachers participated, including Tomas Soucar, Ashley Fochler, Matthew Murphy, Timothy Brown, Mark Reed, and Jena Remka.

After the fundraiser, the boys' soccer team competed against Woonsocket and came out victorious with a final score of 6-0. Scituate’s homecoming weekend also included the girls' soccer game, ending in a tie with Coventry, followed by another victory for the football team with a final score of 21-6 against Exeter-West Greenwich.
