Did you know we offer Intro to Sports Medicine as part of our Fitness Instructor Pathway program? Students will explore careers in Sports Medicine and Movement Science. Scituate students learn how principles from Biomechanics and Physiology are applied by Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and other specialists. Later in the year, students learn the application of fitness principles in 'Physical Training for active Careers' the second course in the pathway. The Fitness Instructor Endorsement can be earned simultaneously while enrolled in other pathways here at Scituate High School. Scituate High School's engineering program received a generous donation this week from the North Warwick Lowes on Greenwich Ave! Some of the valuable equipment that was donated included personal protective equipment and equipment for welding education: gloves, welding wire, protective glasses, welder's pliers, welding caps, cutting oil, paintbrushes, and two fire-festooned auto-darkening helmets. Thank you, Gavin White, Travis Vernon, Justin Rambone, and Joey Almonte for helping us show our appreciation for this awesome donation!

Congratulations to our Entrepreneurship Academy students who participated in our business pitch competition yesterday! First place went to Austin Simas for his ABC Medical Certification pitch and second place went to Aidan Baker! It was clear all of our students worked hard on their business proposals, and we are so proud of them! Thank you Navigant Credit Union for sponsoring this amazing event, and providing cash prizes to our two winners! This amazing opportunity was part of Governor Dan McKee Learn365 Grant to expand high-quality, year-round learning for students.

Last week International Foods students spent time learning about Ukraine customs and cuisine by preparing Ukrainian pancakes and fried cookies! This week students traveled to Italy, a favorite cuisine. They prepared homemade pasta using Kitchen-Aid Mixer attachments. Everyone agreed it tastes so much better than box pasta!

Our Open House was full last night! Thank you to our staff, students, and our Spartan community who attended and helped answer questions and share their Scituate high school experiences. Each display table looked amazing, and it was clear that our students and staff worked hard to put their tables together. It's easy to have Spartan Pride with such a supportive school community!

Mrs. Dailey’s AP Calculus students applied their knowledge of finding the extreme values of a function to a manufacturing problem. Their task was to construct a box from a 5”x8” index card such that the box would have the maximum possible volume for the given amount of construction material. Students planned and discussed their approaches, and then created the boxes which were then filled with a treat to share!

The SHS swimmers competed in two meets, on 1/6 & 1/20 at RIC so far this new year and all swimmers have dropped time since their first meet in December! We have another States qualifier: junior Ella Bard will join Ella Werbecki at the RIIL RI State Championship swim meet at Brown in March with her very strong 500 yard Freestyle time this past Saturday! Freshman Ella Bowden dropped almost FIVE seconds off her 50 yard Freestyle sprint since her first HS meet last month, and newcomer, junior Tristan Redmond, dropped nearly SIX seconds off his 100 yard Freestyle! One more regular season meet to go, great job Spartans!

Our Biomedical students taking Human Body System have been investigating the nervous system! Students worked on sheep brain dissections last week and built clay models that they used to illustrate and explain the events of an action potential. The purpose of the dissection is to give students the experience of observing several of the key anatomical regions and structures of the mammalian brain and connect these with their associated functions!
