"Get involved, and do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Whether it be cheering on your classmates during the Spartan Olympics, or running for student government, there is no experience that is not valuable."

Class of 2025

Norah Clarke

Elementary School: Clayville Elementary School

Post-High School Plans: I am planning on attending college at the University of Rhode Island and majoring in Animal Science.

Dream Job: My dream job is working in wildlife conservation, traveling to research different species and saving them from extinction. I would love to learn more about Earth's wildlife and make a meaningful contribution to the world.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?:  There are so many teachers that have provided me with support, but Ms. Fochler really stands out. Whenever I was on the verge of tears while I was playing tennis or blankly staring at my Algebra II test, she would always be there to encourage me and push me to improve. Throughout high school, she has always made it known that her door is open. She is (thankfully) always willing to listen to my whining about math homework, or give me advice on how to improve my tennis swing. I will always be grateful for Ms. Fochler and the positive impact she has left on me!

What was your favorite class you took during your time at SHS?:  It's so difficult to choose my favorite class; I enjoy and appreciate so many different subjects. However, some that immediately come to mind are AP Literature, Chemistry, and Ceramics. AP Literature was fun because it gave me the opportunity to analyze texts alongside my friends and see how our perspectives compared. It gave me a deeper understanding of other people and how their minds work. I loved Chemistry because it scratched the part of my brain that loves math and science. It was engaging and fun for me to learn about. My favorite part of the class included the demonstrations that Mr. McGinn would do to explain new concepts. Ceramics was one of my favorites because it was a unique way to creatively express myself. It was one of the only art forms that I had never tried, and it has been so fun to create my own 3D objects that I can actually use in everyday life!

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?:  Take advantage of all opportunities given to you! Your high school experience becomes what you make of it; you get what you put in. Get involved, and do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Whether it be cheering on your classmates during the Spartan Olympics, or running for student government, there is no experience that is not valuable. Always be kind to your classmates and make them feel included. Everybody deserves a good high school experience, so be sure to make an effort to leave a positive impact on others. Also, I would say to not be afraid to take the classes that genuinely interest you. If you're curious about a certain career path, take a class that involves that subject!

What makes SHS special?: The ability to build close connections with all of the teachers and students is what makes SHS special to me. I love talking to the teachers one-on-one and getting the extra support I need for certain subjects. The small class sizes make it easy to talk to the teacher and other students, and makes each class more enjoyable. The entire faculty tries their hardest to help the students succeed in every aspect of their lives. Whether it be with academics, athletics, or extra curriculars, they are always their to help the students navigate their way through high school.

What will you miss the most about SHS? : I will miss the friendships I have made the most. Scituate High School has provided me with some of the best friends, classmates, and teachers that I have ever encountered, and I will miss all of them dearly. The close connections that I have with everybody are the most valuable aspect of my high school career, and I am forever grateful to have met these people.
