Class of 2025

Jessica Adams

Elementary School: North Scituate Elementary School

Post-High School Plans: I am attending the University of New Haven to major in Fire Protection Engineering and minor in Fire Science. I also plan to continue volunteering at the North Scituate Fire Department along with a fire department near my college campus.

Dream Job: My dream job is to become a full time firefighter at Disney World, on a cruise ship, or in a city. I want to do this because I want to be a full time firefighter in a place where I don't have to run rescue calls. I want to have the opportunity to travel through my job while still helping people.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?:  Mr. McCarthy is my favorite teacher. He teaches Engineering. He has always been very relatable and is always there to talk about anything you want. He provided me with extra help for other subjects when I didn't understand them, and helped me study for tests. He makes learning math and history more entertaining then I originally thought.

What was your favorite class you took during your time at SHS?:  My favorite class during my time at SHS was Principles of Engineering. I enjoyed this class so much because it was small, allowing us all to work together to accomplish the assignments. This class size also allowed me to learn extra material in engineering, but also my main subjects like Science, English, and History. The class also taught me how to do trigonometry before my pre-calc class started the subject, so I was more prepared and familiar to tackle the subject in my class.

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?:   Take a pathway, more specifically the Engineering Pathway, because you will find lots of classmates with the same interests as you and meet upperclassmen to become friends with. Get to your classes early to meet new people and get the best seat. If you are interested in doing something with the trades or something after high school that doesn't involve college and you choose to stay at Scituate High School make yourself known to the guidance counselors so they can help you with a path to get you where you want! They will help you create a schedule that includes classes that are more trade/career focused.

What makes SHS special?: The class size and size of the school is what makes Scituate High School special. The small size allows you to get to know almost every student and build personal connections with teachers. The way Scituate High School overcomes problems is also very special. The school is adaptable and is great at solving unexpected changes that come up with schedules or current events happening in the world. . The pathways also makes SHS special. They add unique classes that anyone can take.

What will you miss the most about SHS? : I will miss my friends the most and I will miss spending lunches talking to my friends or catching up on work. I will also miss the gym classes.
