Class of 2025

Hope Clemence

Elementary School: North Scituate Elementary School

Post-High School Plans: I will be attending the University of Rhode Island and majoring in Communications with a minor in Journalism.

Dream Job: My dream job is to be a TV newscaster or famous journalist. it is my dream job because I think I would be good at it and it is a job i think plays well into my strengths because i like being informed, and i'm good at public speaking. it's thanks to the Broadcast Club at Scituate High School that I realized that is what I wanted to do.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?:  I have so many favorites but i'll give a shout out to Mr Ballou and Miss Feldman. I've had Mr Ballou as my teacher for Economics and History of Film, he is also the advisor for the Broadcast Club. even as a Sophomore when I joined the club Mr Ballou always gave me so many wonderful opportunities and trust. I know that my high school experience wouldn't have been the same without that. Also all the classes of his i've taken with him were so captivating, Mr Ballou is always so knowledgeable about everything he talks about and his classes are super fun. I've had Miss Feldman for 4 Art classes at Scituate and 2 years of Art Club. She has always been there for me and is so supportive of my art, even when I want to do some crazy project. I also love that she also is always there to listen and help with whatever her students have going on.

What was your favorite class you took during your time at SHS?:  I've loved so many classes I've taken at Scituate but if I were to highlight one I would say English 10 with Mr Kelly. I know that's not a usual choice because it was a required class and general level but that was one of my favorites. Being able to read the stories written as plays like Macbeth and the Crucible really helped me get into the curriculum. Mr. Kelly was also always there to help any student in the class despite how many students were in it. He also gave many opportunities for creative assignments. I really feel like this was one of the most important classes i've taken at Scituate High School.

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?:  I know this is what everyone says, but get involved! As a Freshman I did very little to get involved in my school community because I didn't think it mattered, but once I joined the Broadcast Club, Tennis, and Drama I was able to branch out and become more confident and it made high school more fun!

What makes SHS special?: Scituate High School is great because it is somewhere that everybody knows you and wants to help. There has been teachers who have talked to me in the hallways about things like Broadcast Club or the play and had conversations with me even when i've never had them as teachers, and you know that if something is wrong someone will talk to you about it.

What will you miss the most about SHS? : Most of all I will miss all the fun classes I've been able to take, like all the art classes or my History of Film class. These classes have really made my high school experience more fun, and even classes where the topics weren't as fun. I will miss the teachers and students who made them even more interesting.
