Class of 2024

John Loertscher

Post- High School Plans: I will serve a 2-year mission trip for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Dream Job: I might decide to be an English teacher someday.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?:  My favorite teacher was Mr. McCarthy. To me, he is someone who really cares about his job and all of the students here. He always goes the extra mile, whether it's going out of his way to get materials for our projects or helping us find senior project mentors.

What was your favorite class you took during your time at SHS?:  One of my favorite classes was my Chemistry class in my junior year. I found the subject very interesting, and the way Doctor McCarthy kept us engaged by creating positive academic competition between us was really helpful. We created many great memories.

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?:  I would say take everything in stride and try your best. Try to get the most out of High School, don't leave with any regrets. Because of Scituate's small size, there is no better place to get involved with extracurriculars, sports, and special events, so take that opportunity to participate. Try your absolute best in everything, but also don't overdo it.

What makes SHS special?: I believe SHS has a very inclusive and supportive community. Whether it is a teacher, guidance counselor, or friend, there is always someone you can reach out to get help from.

What will you miss the most about SHS? : The thing I will miss most about Scituate High School is the sports teams. Being able to play and be part of a team is awesome and I will miss the competitive environment.
