Students in Mr. McGovern's class at North Scituate learned what an ecosystem is in January! They also learned about the characteristics of a healthy ecosystem and what might happen if a new organism is introduced to an ecosystem. After engaging in the lesson, students worked in groups for an activity. Each group was given four parts of an ecosystem, together they needed to write and record how the parts interact in an ecosystem!
Students in Mrs. Bettez' class at North Scituate Elementary completed non-fiction books after studying Bugs in their Ecosystem. Students spent weeks researching a specific bug and then created a book with headings and pictures.They also worked together to make food webs as part of their Science4us learning!

North Scituate first graders in room 3 have been honing in on their math fact fluency skills since the beginning of school by completing Eureka’s weekly “Sprints.” Almost all students are able to get into the second column now within the allotted 90 seconds!
The Feinstein Foundation and Mastery Martial Arts partnered to provide North Scituate students with an engaging assembly in early January. The dynamic assembly featured martial arts demonstrations, motivational speeches, and even opportunities for students to participate in martial arts activities. Students were educated about the positive values & leadership skills associated with martial arts!
In January students at North Scituate participated in classroom spelling bees! The following students were finalists in their classroom and participated in our school bee : Trent T, Joey B, Jam A, Isabella C, Marie O, Justin P, Liam, Raffaele, Paige, Aadarsh, Michael D., Jaxon R., and Lauren W.

Classrooms were encouraged to decorate their classroom doors at North Scituate Elementary with their grade-level partner. Two of the rules were that students must help and must have a holiday theme. Mrs. Soccio was the judge. She had such a hard decision that she selected 4 of her favorite doors- Kindergarten & 1st grade doors. Thank you to all of the classrooms that participated in this fun contest!
Local author, Jill Austin, visited our North Scituate second graders in December to share her fantastic winter/Christmas books; "What Does Santa Want For Christmas?" and "Every Snowflake Wants To Be A Snowball".
Last month, 1st graders at North Scituate Elementary spent time learning all about shared traits during a science lesson through hands-on matching activities and interactive read-alouds!

In December, The Scituate Police Department organized a successful Stuff a Cruiser Event with our elementary schools. Thank you to the Scituate Community for supporting this event which provides toys/games for our Adopt a Family program. It's wonderful to be part of a giving and supportive community!
Huge thank you to our North Scituate PTO and volunteers for making our annual Christmas in the Village event a success. Our school organizes a Bake Sale, Raffles, Duck Game, and crafts (reindeer food and snow) for children. It was great to see our families come to this event as well as former North Scituate Students who volunteered to run the craft stations. Team effort to make this event possible! This event raised over $1200 for our school.
Clayville, Hope, and North Scituate Elementary schools all enjoyed their school holiday chorus concerts before the winter break! It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces!
SHS Chorus visited North Scituate Elementary for High Five Friday before Winter Break. After high fives, the Chorus led students in grades 3-5 for a few Disney Sing-Alongs. Thank you for a fun-filled morning! Huge thank you to Sgt. Parenti, Ms. Norton, and First Student for making this possible.

North Scituate Elementary had two wonderful visitors recently! Ashton's Grandfather, Mr. Holmes, came in to give a presentation on fossils, animal adaptations, evolution of animals, and told different tales about fossils. He was also generous enough to hand-make an individual fossil kit that each fourth grader got to take home with fossils that he has sourced over the years and even found himself! Thank you, Mr. Holmes!
Melanie's mom, Mrs. Bernier, came in and read "Balloons over Broadway" to Ms. Cuttle's class which taught the students about the history behind the Macy's Day Parade. Students worked in groups to create an idea for their own Macy's Day float. After sketching their ideas they were given balloons, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, construction paper, pom poms, and popsicle sticks to make their float as a team! Thank you, Mrs. Bernier!
Students in Mrs. DiLuglio's class at North Scituate Elementary are coaching each other on addition, subtraction, and estimating to see if our answers make sense as they prepare for an upcoming assessment. Great teamwork and focus!
